Umoja Village Celebrates Black History Month in Aiken
AIKEN, S.C. - It’s the second day of February and that means the second day of black history month and local celebrations are in full swing.
Aiken residents gathered at the Lessie B. Price Senior and Youth Center, all dressed in their Sunday best.
Put on by Umoja Village, the non-profit organization is dedicated to uniting Black and African American organizations, clubs, businesses, churches, and individuals in Aiken.
“Our people are to be celebrated because Black history is American history. No one should doubt that. And you know, in order for us to really come together, it's to celebrate everybody, and that's what today is all about, to celebrate our culture, our contributions, and we do it by recognizing local individuals who are giving back to this very community,” said Donna Moore Wesby, the Umoja Village CEO, and Co-founder.
